International buyers often know exactly what they need, but their first RFQ still leaves critical questions unanswered. A drawing without service conditions can produce a technically neat quotation that is wrong for the furnace. This guide helps buyers prepare an enquiry for an alloy steel castings supplier so that the first response is useful and comparable.

The information block to put at the top
Write the furnace type, component function, operating temperature range, atmosphere, cycle, load, movement and installation zone in the first paragraph. State whether the part is a new design, an exact replacement or a replacement with an engineering review. This prevents a broad material phrase from becoming the entire specification.
Attach the right technical files
- Latest drawing or a measured sketch with units and revision.
- Photographs showing the installed position, supports and failure location.
- Original part number, quantity and required delivery date.
- Material reference and any customer-approved alternatives.
- Inspection documents and packaging requirements.
If the drawing is incomplete, say which dimensions are measured and which are estimated. Honest uncertainty is easier to resolve than an unmarked assumption.
Ask for a quotation that separates the scope
| Quotation line | Why buyers should see it separately |
|---|---|
| Pattern or tooling | Shows whether a future repeat order will have a different cost |
| Casting and finishing | Clarifies what is included before machining |
| Machining | Identifies datum and interface responsibility |
| Inspection and documents | Prevents quality records being treated as an afterthought |
| Packaging and delivery | Makes the landed schedule easier to compare |
Questions for an overseas shipment
Confirm the packed dimensions, marking, document set, delivery basis, lead time assumptions and the contact for technical clarifications. Ask how the parts will be protected at flanges, machined faces, lifting points and thin sections. The buyer should also specify whether several pieces must be packed and identified by furnace zone.
Short RFQ wording buyers can adapt
“Please quote the attached furnace component drawing. The part is used in [furnace type] at [operating range] under [atmosphere]. It carries/moves/supports [load or workpiece]. Please state the proposed material, manufacturing route, critical inspection points, documents supplied, tooling cost, lead time and packing method. Highlight any assumption or deviation before production.”
This wording does not force a supplier to guess a grade or promise a service life. It asks for the information required to make a responsible comparison.
For product examples, see heat-treatment baskets, trays, furnace rolls and radiant tubes. ECOOSUN also reviews custom heat-resistant alloy castings. Send the drawing and RFQ details for a quotation review.
Compare answers, not only prices
Use the same RFQ for each candidate and compare the stated assumptions, inspection scope, repeat-order plan, delivery details and technical communication. A low price that omits machining or documentation is not comparable with a complete offer.
Final buyer check
The best alloy steel castings supplier response makes it easy to see what is known, what is assumed and what needs approval. That clarity is especially valuable when the casting will be installed during a short shutdown in another country.
